A flute lesson would involve some drill on scales and etudes as appropriate to the student's level, duets about every other week,
and work on repertoire. When working on repertoire, the question Beth always asks is, "what is the emotional message of this piece?"
and then, "how do we get that message across when we play it?" The answer would be found in the dynamics and phrasing the
student feels fits the message. The message is all-important! Such approach helps a student to develop a higher level of
musicality and an artistic awareness aside from technique; a crucial factor in the overall growth of every musician.
